Low-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is experiencing a renaissance: thesesystems are cheaper, safer, more adaptable to different environments, and easier to usethan their high-field counterparts. Compact and mobile scanners are changing workflowsin radiology, where MRI comes to the patient rather than the patient to the MRI. Theseinnovations are driven primarily by AI combined with low-cost hardware customised toclinical applications. This project will establish the necessary metrological framework forthe harmonised development of clinical open-source low-field MRI to facilitate greateraccess to this technology and ensure reliable and reproducible diagnostic information forpatients in the EU and worldwide.
