Short description
(English)
Development of a new primary reference standard for radio frequency power based on the electro-optical effect, in cooperation with COMET (industry partner, Switzerland) and the University of Otago (technology partner, New Zealand). Ideally, the new standard will achieve comparable or even higher accuracy than the classic methods based on thermal effects (e.g., microcalorimeters), as well as significantly shorter measurement times.
The University of Otago manufactures the electro-optical elements according to specifications. COMET and METAS implement these elements in coaxial cable structures for the measurement of high power at low frequencies and low power at high frequencies. Characterization and validation of the systems are carried out by METAS and COMET.
Project aims
(English)
  • Creation of a validated low-power radio frequency power standard based on the electro-optical effect for use at METAS.
  • Creation of a validated high-power radio frequency power standard based on the electro-optical effect for use at COMET.

  • Creation of a validated high-power microcalorimeter for use at COMET.
