This action-based mixed-method research project investigates from various perspectives the potentials of E-Bike Sharing Systems (EBSS) for sustainable mobility transitions in different spatial types in Switzerland. The city of Basel and its surroundings serve as a case study region. In close cooperation with public mobility and administration stakeholders (e.g., Basel-Stadt, BVB), and the dynamic EBSS operators Pick-e-Bike and PubliBike (velospot) experimental interventions will be conducted to contribute to the empirical body of knowledge on EBSS, and to provide advice to decision makers from the public and private sectors to enable EBSS to transition from a niche to a sustainable mass market. Addition-ally, EBSS user and transaction data will be analyzed using data sci-ence, accompanied by quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and a focus group stakeholder workshop to obtain in-depth insights on the fac-tors influencing user behavior and identify ways to manage the imple-mentation of EBSS in a flexible multimodal mobility system.
