Kurzbeschreibung
(Deutsch)

Kurzbeschreibung
(Englisch)

According to Swiss Energy Perspectives 2050+, about 2/3 of all buildings will be heated with individual heat pumps in the future, which can lead to a problematic additional load peak in the order of 10 GW on cold winter days. Together, these systems will already have a capacity of about 70 GWh with a conventional design of the water storage. This project investigates the extent to which larger water storage tanks can be used in buildings to break these problematic power peaks. However, this requires a system-serving regulation/control and, in part, sacrifices in self-consumption optimisation, which are not yet promoted by the current incentive systems.

Kurzbeschreibung

CHF notwendig.

Schlussbericht

According to Energy Perspective 2050+, around two-thirds of all buildings will be heated with individual heat pumps in the future, which could lead to a problematic additional peak load of around 10 GW on cold winter days. This project investigated the extent to which heat pumps can be used in combination with larger water storage tanks in buildings to reduce problematic winter peak loads, especially when the CO2 load on the grid is high. The results of the study showed that the maximum electricity peak and the CO2 load of the heat pump can be reduced by an average of 12% and 20% respectively (compared to the standard case), although the results vary greatly from case to case. The change in storage volume has a significant influence on the change in the building's CO2 load, but not on the reduction in electricity peak. AP4 uses an analysis of swarm concepts to show that decentralized coordination at neighbourhood level with TES that have a bridging time of approx. 8 hours can reduce power peaks by approx. 30%; at national level, the technically exploitable potential is approx. 10-15%, as non-flexible load components dominate nationally. On the grid side, TESs are particularly effective in LV7 (low voltage) and MV5 (medium voltage) by decoupling heat demand from electricity peaks in time, thereby reducing local simultaneity. In AP5, the technoeconomic assessment results in heat production costs of CHF 0.219-0.317/kWh. With a suitable control strategy (CO2min / PVEigenmax), a maximum of 1.5% of Switzerland's building CO2 emissions can be avoided. A neighbourhood peak reduction of approximately 30% can enable grid cost savings in the order of around CHF 2.0 billion/year; to achieve a similar effect, one-off additional investments for large TES in the order of CHF 9 billion would be necessary.
