Global Programme Food Security Innovation Platforms
Projet terminé
An improved participation of all stakeholders in research and innovation is crucial for finding solutions to fundamentally transform the global food systems, which is required to ensure food and nutrition security for all while reversing degradation of land and water. With this support, Swiss scientific institutions and the SDC are better connected with global networks, promoting creation of knowledge and innovations and their dissemination among a broad range of actors and food system stakeholders.

| Contexte |
Over the past decades, progress in science, technology and innovation (STI) has led to improvements in living standards with the role of STI in fostering economic growth and sustainable development becoming increasingly evident. Most developing countries, however, do not have the research capacity to develop new technologies and adequate STI systems, nor do they have access to international networks that effectively support technology acquisition and adaptation. Agricultural research investment levels in most low- and middle-income countries are still very low. In this context, access to multi-stakeholder networks and their inter-connectivity is extremely important. In the future, this is likely to gain even more importance due to the massive use of increasingly effective communication techniques. |
| Objectifs |
The overall goal of the GPFS support to three innovation and knowledge-sharing networks is ‘’to facilitate information, knowledge and experience exchange among stakeholders to find future oriented, innovative and sustainable solutions for smallholder agricultural development and poverty alleviation with a particular focus on agroecology and nutrition sensitive actions.’’ |
| Groupes cibles |
TPP: Leaders and policy makers at the science policy interface, Committee on World Food Security (CFS), farmers organisations (Asian Farmers association AFA), Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA)), the CGIAR, the United Nation Food System Summit (UNFSS) Agroecology coalition.
SFIAR: Research organisations in Switzerland, the CGIAR, universities and research groups in the global south, SDC programs and students.
CABI: Ministries of Agriculture, departments of plant protection in member countries and ultimately smallholder farmers.
|
| Effets à moyen terme |
- Networks have a stronger brokering role in agricultural innovation systems for development and in knowledge sharing
- Regional chapters and thematic networks are actively engaging and influencing national, regional and international discussions on agricultural development for the benefit of smallholder farmers and consumers
- Relevant Swiss actors in agricultural innovation systems are more strongly involved and play an important role in the creation of knowledge, in coordination, and in advocacy for agroecology, and nutrition-sensitive agriculture for sustainably transforming food systems
