The project reviews the current Swiss MENA Strategy 2021-2024, assesses current and future challenges to the region as well as potential developments and develops policy options and recommendations for Switzerland. These findigs shall inform the elaboration of the next Swiss MENA Strategy.
Project aims

The project offers a holistic focus on governance, geopolitics, economics and security. It consists of a descriptive/analytical overview of the satus quo and a second, prescriptive segment. The project will incorporate desk research that examines the current trends in the MENA region and critically reviews the Swiss MENA Strategy. Tentative future scenarios may also be developed. 

February 2023: 1,5-day expert meeting on the challenges and outlook on the MENA region as well as potential policy options. The meeting includes international experts, IHEID experts, GCSP experts and representatives of the FDFA at the GCSP. 
Spring 2023: GCSP and CCDP (Centre on Conflict, Development & Peacbuilding) organizes a half-day meeting to discuss policy options specifically for Switzerland. The meeting includes GCSP experts, IHEID experts and representatives of the Swiss FDFA at the GCSP. 
Summer 2023: a report on the challenges and outlook on the MENA region as well as policy options and recommendations for Switzerland will be provided to the FDFA. GCSP will also publish the parts on the challenges and outlook on the MENA region for public availability.
