Ensuring the stability of boreholes is fundamental to the success of deep geothermal projects but also in the context of CO2 sequestration. In the framework of the TIBEX-probe project we propose an ex-perimental approach to better evaluate and understand the stability of deep wells. This approach will be deployed in the Bedretto underground laboratory and will allow to evaluate not only mechanical but also thermomechanical and hydromechanical effects related to well stability. Moreover, the probe de-veloped in this project could constitute a method for measuring in-situ stresses, a key parameter for developing deep engineering projects (geothermal energy, CO2 sequestration). By ensuring the stabil-ity of the wells and by allowing the measurement of in-situ stresses, the results of this project will contribute to the de-risking of deep engineering projects and thus contribute to the decarbonization of our society.
