Im Rahmen des Projekts LANTERN sollen Energielösungen für eine kohlenstofffreie und verantwortungsvolle Schweiz entwickelt, getestet, validiert und reproduziert werden, in der die Nutzer im Mittelpunkt stehen. Die anwendungsorientierten Forschungsarbeiten sind an der Schnittstelle von Gesellschaft, öffentlicher Politik, Märkte und Technologie angesiedelt. Das Projekt untersucht die Energiewende aus soziotechnischer Sicht und berücksichtigt dabei soziale Praktiken, Normen, die Nutzung von Technologien sowie Nutzungskontexte (Zuhause, Freizeit, Arbeit, Mobilität usw.). Die entsprechenden neuen Dienstleistungen, Programme und politischen Massnahmen werden zusammen mit den Stakeholdern unter anderem in Living Labs auf verschiedenen Ebenen (Wohnraum, Institutionen, Quartiere, Stadt) konzipiert, getestet und validiert. Die Auswirkungen werden ganzheitlich und systemisch gemessen, indem sowohl technisch-wirtschaftliche als auch soziale Effekte beurteilt werden, um zu verstehen, wie Veränderungen von sozialen Praktiken, Politik und Technologie zur Verringerung der Kohlenstoffemissionen und zur Verbesserung der Energieeffizienz und -sparsamkeit in jedem der Zielgebiete beitragen. Das Ziel besteht darin, Lösungen zu entwickeln und zu testen, mit denen die Ziele der Energiestrategie 2050 und 2050+ sowie der Klimapläne in den untersuchten städtischen Gebieten erreicht werden können. Durch die Entwicklung einer Replikationsstrategie soll das landesweite Potenzial ermittelt werden. Das Projekt soll Möglichkeiten zur Überwindung von Hindernissen und zur Nutzung des Potenzials der Energiewende aufzeigen, um eine kollektive Entwicklung hin zu einer nachhaltigen Energiezukunft zu ermöglichen.

The aim of the LANTERN proposal is to co-design, test, validate, and scale up a portfolio of interventions for a user-empowered, decarbonized, resource efficient and sufficient Switzerland. We will achieve it through applied research and development at the interface between markets, technology, policies, and society. The project will assess the relevance of socio-technical aspects, e.g. social practices, use of technologies, norms and context of use with respect to the sustainable energy transition in Swiss households, leisure activities and workplaces. In real-life Living Labs, corresponding new services, programs and policies will be co-designed, tested and validated at different scales (e.g. in homes, institutions, districts, or city level). The impact will be measured in a holistic and systemic framework that assess techno-economic-social effects to understand how the changes in social practices, policies, and technologies support substantially the reduction of carbon emissions as well as the improved energy efficiency and sufficiency in each Urban Living Lab. The goal is to develop and test pathways to achieve the objectives of the Energy Strategy 2050 and 2050+ and the climate plans in the studied Urban Living Lab areas. The country-wide potential will be established through the development of a strategy for scale-up. The project brings light to pathways which overcome barriers and capture transition potential by working at system interfaces to move towards sustainable energy futures together.

L'objectif du projet LANTERN est de coconcevoir, tester, valider et répliquer un portefeuille d'interventions pour une Suisse décarbonée, responsable, sobre et efficiente dans l’utilisation de ses ressources énergétiques, dans laquelle les utilisateurs ont la centralité. Pour ce faire, LANTERN développe une recherche appliquée située à l'interface de la société, des politiques publiques, des marchés et de la technologie. Le projet aborde la transition énergétique selon une perspective sociotechnique, en considérant à la fois les pratiques sociales, l'usage des technologies, les normes et les contextes d'utilisation (allant de la sphère domestique aux espaces de loisirs en passant par les lieux de travail et la mobilité). Les nouveaux services, programmes et politiques correspondants seront conçus, testés et validés avec les parties prenantes à différentes échelles (du logement, des institutions, des quartiers ou des villes) en prenant appui sur des Living Labs (ou laboratoires vivants). L'impact sera mesuré de façon holistique et systémique, en évaluant aussi bien les effets technico-économiques que sociaux afin de comprendre comment les changements dans les pratiques sociales, les politiques et les technologies contribuent à la réduction des émissions de carbone ainsi qu'à l'amélioration de l'efficacité et de la sobriété énergétiques dans chacun des territoires visés. L'objectif est de développer et de tester des solutions permettant d'atteindre les objectifs de la stratégie énergétique 2050 et 2050+ ainsi que les plans climatiques dans les zones urbaines étudiées. Le potentiel à l'échelle du pays sera établi par le développement d'une stratégie réplication à plus grande échelle. Le projet doit ainsi mettre en lumière des itinéraires de transformation permettant de surmonter les obstacles et d'exploiter le potentiel de transition pour évoluer collectivement vers un avenir énergétique durable.

L’obiettivo di LANTERN è di co-progettare, testare, validare e portare alla scala macro un portafoglio di interventi per una Svizzera a zero emissioni di CO2, responsabile, sufficiente ed efficiente nell’uso delle risorse, dove gli utenti sono centrali. Per riuscirci, LANTERN sviluppa ricerca applicata situata all’interfaccia tra società, politiche pubbliche, mercati e tecnologie. Il progetto approccia la transizione energetica con una prospettiva socio-tecnica che considera contemporaneamente le pratiche sociali, l’uso delle tecnologie, le norme ed i contesti d’utilizzazione, che vanno dalla sfera domestica agli spazi di ricreazione passando per i luoghi di lavoro e la mobilità. Grazie a Living Lab (“laboratori viventi”) ancorati alla vita reale verranno co-progettati nuovi servizi, programmi e politiche, da testare e validare con gli stakeholders a scale territoriali differenti (edifici, istituzioni, distretti e città). L’impatto sarà misurato in un quadro olistico e sistemico che valuta gli effetti tecno-economico-sociali per comprendere come i cambiamenti nelle pratiche sociali, nelle politiche e nelle tecnologie supporti in modo sostanziale 1. la riduzione dei gas ad effetto serra 2. la sufficienza e 3. l’efficienza nei territori obiettivo. L’obiettivo è di sviluppare e testare traiettorie per raggiungere gli obiettivi nazionali della Strategia Energetica 2050 e 2050+ ed i piani climatici urbani delle aree coinvolte. Lo sviluppo di una strategia intenzionale di trasferimento e replica permetterà di stabilire un potenziale nazionale. Il progetto getta luce sulle traiettorie che permettono di superare le barriere e catturare il potenziale di transizione lavorando all’interfaccia sistemica per andare verso i futuri dell’energia sostenibile insieme.

Lantern ist ein nationales Forschungskonsortium zur Förderung der Energiewende in der Schweiz mittels praxisnaher Interventionen, dem Einbezug von Stakeholdern und interdisziplinärer Zusammenarbeit. Verankert in der Energiestrategie 2050 und der langfristigen Klimastrategie der Schweiz fördert Lantern Suffizienz- und Effizienzstrategien sowie die Integration erneuerbarer Energien in den Bereichen Wohnen, Arbeiten und Freizeit. Mit elf thematischen und transversalen Arbeitspaketen (WPs) und fünf Living Labs in der ganzen Schweiz testet Lantern gemeinsam entwickelte und an lokale Kontexte angepasste Interventionen. Diese umfassen nachhaltige Mobilität, Gebäudesanierung, intelligente Energienutzung, kohlenstoffarmen Tourismus, flexible Arbeitsmodelle und Energiegemeinschaften. Das Konsortium bringt Forscherinnen und Forscher, Städte, Industriepartner und zivilgesellschaftliche Akteure mit inklusiven und partizipativen Methoden zusammen. In den vergangenen drei Jahren hat Lantern eine solide Grundlage für die Governance von Living Labs, die methodische Harmonisierung und den Komeptenzaufbau geschaffen - und mehr als 20 experimentelle Interventionen ermöglicht. Zu den Highlights zählen die beobachteten Verhaltensänderungen durch die 31-Tage-Mobilitäts-Challenge in Winterthur, die Lancierung der Treeps-App für klimafreundliches Reisen, partizipative Sanierungsstrategien in Genf und Luzern sowie die Entwicklung von Instrumenten wie dem Mountain Tourism Fresco und den Personas zur gezielten Nutzeransprache. Die Vision von Lantern ist es, die Energiewende gerecht, partizipativ und systemisch zu beschleunigen. Mit kollaborativen Tools, Interventionen in der Praxis und praxisorientiertem Ansätzen will das Konsortium eine Brücke zwischen Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft schlagen - für Lösungen, die nicht nur innovativ, sondern auch fair und umsetzbar sind.

The SWEET consortium Lantern is a national research consortium dedicated to advancing Switzerland’s energy transition through real-life experimentation, stakeholder engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Anchored in Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 and Long-Term Climate Strategy, Lantern promotes energy sufficiency, efficiency, and renewable integration across living, working, and leisure environments. By mobilizing eleven thematic and transversal work packages (WPs) and operating in five Living Labs across Switzerland, Lantern tests co-designed interventions tailored to local contexts. These interventions address sustainable mobility, retrofitting and housing, smart energy use, low-carbon tourism, flexible working models, and energy communities. The consortium brings together researchers, municipalities, industry partners, and civil society actors through inclusive, participatory methods. Over the past three years, Lantern has established solid foundations for Living Lab governance, methodological harmonisation, and capacity building—facilitating over 20 experimental interventions. Highlights include a behavioural shift observed in Winterthur’s 31-day mobility challenge, the launch of the Treeps app for low-carbon travel, participatory retrofitting strategies in Geneva and Lucerne, and the development of tools like the Mountain Tourism Fresco and Persona profiles to better target user engagement. Lantern’s vision is to accelerate a just, participatory, and systemic energy transition. Through collaborative tools, real-world interventions, and stakeholder-driven design, it aims to bridge science and society, ensuring energy transition solutions are not only innovative but equitable and actionable.

Lantern est un consortium national de recherche dédié à faire progresser la transition énergétique en Suisse à travers des expérimentations concrètes, la mobilisation des parties prenantes et la collaboration interdisciplinaire. Ancré dans la Stratégie énergétique 2050 et la Stratégie climatique à long terme de la Suisse, Lantern promeut la suffisance énergétique, l'efficacité et l'intégration des énergies renouvelables dans les cadres de vie, de travail et de loisirs. En mobilisant onze paquets de travail thématiques et transversaux (WPs) et en opérant cinq Living Labs répartis en Suisse, Lantern teste des interventions co-conçues adaptées aux contextes locaux. Ces interventions portent sur la mobilité durable, la rénovation et l’habitat, l’usage intelligent de l’énergie, le tourisme bas carbone, les nouveaux modèles de travail et les communautés énergétiques. Le consortium rassemble chercheurs, collectivités, partenaires industriels et acteurs de la société civile autour de démarches inclusives et participatives. Au cours des trois dernières années, Lantern a établi des bases solides en matière de gouvernance des Living Labs, d’harmonisation méthodologique et de renforcement des capacités – permettant plus de 20 interventions expérimentales. Parmi les faits marquants figurent des changements de comportement observés lors du défi mobilité de 31 jours à Winterthur, le lancement de l’application Treeps pour des voyages bas carbones, des stratégies de rénovation participative à Genève et Lucerne, ainsi que le développement d’outils comme la Fresque du tourisme de montagne et les profils Persona pour mieux cibler l’engagement des usagers. Lantern porte une vision d’une transition énergétique juste, participative et systémique. À travers des outils collaboratifs, des interventions concrètes et une conception guidée par les parties prenantes, il vise à rapprocher la science et la société, en garantissant des solutions à la fois innovantes, équitables et applicables.

Lantern è un consorzio di ricerca nazionale dedicato ad accelerare la transizione energetica della Svizzera attraverso sperimentazioni reali, il coinvolgimento degli attori locali e la collaborazione interdisciplinare. Ancorato alla Strategia Energetica 2050 e alla Strategia Climatica a lungo termine della Svizzera, Lantern promuove la sufficienza, l’efficienza e l’integrazione delle energie rinnovabili negli ambiti della vita quotidiana, del lavoro e del tempo libero. Mobilitando undici pacchetti di lavoro tematici e trasversali (WPs) e operando attraverso cinque Living Lab sul territorio nazionale, Lantern testa interventi co-progettati e adattati ai contesti locali. Gli ambiti di intervento includono mobilità sostenibile, riqualificazione delle abitazioni, uso intelligente dell’energia, turismo a basse emissioni, nuovi modelli di lavoro e comunità energetiche. Il consorzio riunisce ricercatori, enti pubblici, partner industriali e attori della società civile attraverso approcci inclusivi e partecipativi. Negli ultimi tre anni, Lantern ha costruito solide basi per la governance dei Living Lab, l’armonizzazione metodologica e la formazione delle competenze, facilitando oltre 20 interventi sperimentali. Tra i principali risultati figurano i cambiamenti comportamentali osservati durante la sfida dei 31 giorni sulla mobilità a Winterthur, il lancio dell’app Treeps per i viaggi a basse emissioni, strategie partecipative di riqualificazione a Ginevra e Lucerna, e lo sviluppo di strumenti come il Mountain Tourism Fresco e i profili Persona per migliorare il coinvolgimento degli utenti.
