Short description
(English)

Water vapor in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere has a major influence on the Earth's climate and is therefore an "essential climate variable" (ECV). In order to measure this ECV accurately, EMPA has developed a prototype of a laser spectrometer that can be attached to weather balloons.

Project aims
(English)

In this project, EMPA is working with MeteoSwiss and METAS to further develop this measuring device. METAS is generating water vapor references that correspond to the conditions in the atmosphere in order to validate the device. An existing test chamber will also be used.
