Description succincte (Anglais)	The year 2021 is the “European Year of Rail”, dedicated by European and Swiss authorities to improve rail infrastructure and services and increase their use by citizens. Acknowledging that the majority of the flights departing from and arriving to Swiss airports are from/to nearby Europeancountries, some night train services were revived this year and new routes are planned to enter in service by 2024. However, until today only technical and economic evaluations have been conducted to evaluate the potentials of these services. In this project, we aim at understanding current and potential use of night trains from a social cognitive perspective, focusing on leisure travel. Findings from surveys targeting night train users as well as the general population will inform authorities and rail companies to set strategies leading to a greater use of night trains, thus also contributing to achieve the Swiss climate target of net-zero emissions by 2050.
Description succincte (Italien)	Il 2021 è “l’anno europeo della ferrovia". Le autorità europee e svizzere hanno dedicato questo anno a migliorare le infrastrutture ed i servizi ferroviari di modo da promuoverne il maggiore utilizzo. Riconoscendo chela maggior parte dei voli negli aeroporti svizzeri sono da/per i paesi europei vicini, alcuni servizi di treni notturni sono stati ripresi quest’annoe nuove tratte sono previste per il 2024. Fino ad oggi, tuttavia, solo valutazioni tecniche ed economiche sono state condotte per valutarel’offerta di questi servizi. In questo progetto, miriamo a comprendere l'usoattuale e potenziale dei treni notturni da una prospettiva socio-cognitiva, concentrandoci sui viaggi nel tempo libero. I risultati di sondaggi rivolti agliutenti dei treni notturni e alla popolazione in generale permetteranno alle autorità e alle compagnie ferroviarie di sviluppare strategie per aumentarel’uso dei treni notturni, contribuendo così a raggiungere l'obiettivo climatico svizzero di zero emissioni nette entro il 2050.
