Short description
(English)

The increasing use of distributed energy generation and storage has led to local DC trial grids as an extension to traditional AC distribution networks. Like the existing AC grids, DC grids must fulfil power quality (PQ) limits to guarantee reliable operation and to protect customers. However, knowledge about PQ in public DC systems and its impact on DC electricity metering is lacking, as is the related metrology and standardization.

Project aims
(English)

In this context, METAS is active in two work packages (WPs). In WP1, METAS will contribute in the definition of relevant DCPQ parameters for low-voltage DC grids and of relevant waveforms for the type testing of DC electricity meters. METAS is also leader of WP3 that is dedicated to the development and characterization of reference systems for DC energy and power as well as DCPQ. In this sense, the objective is to develop three similar (but non coincident) architectures at METAS, VSL and PTB and then proceed to a round-robin comparison to validate the performance of the reference systems.
