Kurzbeschreibung
(Englisch)
Manufacturers of the decentralized photovoltaic power electronics for every solar module promise asignificant increase in yield. However, there is a lack of research results in order to provide end customers, photovoltaic (PV) installers as well as experienced PV planners with reliable information onthe expected yield for typical shading objects on the roof. Current planning tools are currently not ableto depict this satisfactorily, as the time required by the planner for detailed measurement and simulationis too extensive. The approach proposed here aims to supplement the data sheets of the manufacturersof PV power electronics in the form of a shadow efficiency. For a typical shading situation, it allowsthe comparison of different decentralized and central systems. The development and verification of themethod with own simulation and laboratory measurements is the core of the research project.

Schlussbericht
(Englisch)

In recent years, manufacturers of Power Optimizer systems have gained significant market share. There are various reasons for this, such as shading situations, individual module monitoring, fire protection and simpler planning. In return, the end customer pays a higher price for the photovoltaic system due to the additional electronics. Customers are usually told that the optimizer is always the most technically efficient solution. For customers, planners, installers and scientists, it is of central importance when exactly with which system, string inverter or optimizer additional yields are achieved on an annual average. However, there are hardly any studies and investigations that are reproducible that proof the additional yields by Power Optimizer systems. The expert group for photovoltaic systems at the ZHAW IEFE is therefore investigating these questions in this project, which is funded by the SFOE, with the aim, among other things, of deriving quantitatively sound statements and recommendations for practical application. The simulations under different shading conditions are in turn verified with laboratory measurements. The final report 2023 finalizes the project results, describing the project milestones of the 2023 period in detail. First, the final results of the Power Optimizer efficiency measurements are presented, which formed the basis for all further investigations. Subsequently, new, practically relevant shading situations are visualized and described. Contrary to previous analyses, which were part of reports 2021 and 2022, not new shading objects were investigated, but the effects of known shading objects on different photovoltaic module types were analyzed. Furthermore, the new definition of the weighting factors for the calculation of the "Shading Adaption Efficiency" of different shading objects is presented in the final report, with a reduction from six to five factors. As a last result, the measurement results of the DC/AC efficiencies of five different module inverter models are presented and a comparison with Power Optimizer is made. Finally, there is an overview of all publications that were implemented as part of the project and in which the detailed results and analyses can be found.

Schlussbericht
