Metrology for hydrogen vehicles

METAS is WP leader of WP1 Flow metering. This WP was separated into 5 tasks:
1. Comparison with existing gravimetric installations
2. Development of a new test rig for heavy-duty vehicles
3. Development and validation of a verification method for hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS) using a secondary standard.
4. Development of a model to determine the flow uncertainties associated with HRS.
5. Recommendation for periodic verification of HRS

The project was separated into 5 tasks:

1) Key comparison with existing gravimetric standards
2) Development of new primary standards for heavy-duty refueling 
3) Development and validation of a method using a secondary standards (master meters) for vehicle refueling capable of covering light-duty to heavy-duty vehicles 
4) Develop a model for assessing the uncertainty at HRS 
5) Recommendation on the periodic verification of HRS

METAS contributed to task1, task2, and task5. METAS had very little contribution to the others.
Abstract

The key comparison with existing gravimetric standards was completed. All expected participants (CESAME, JV, METAS, and NEL) participated in the comparison at ZBT HRS (the project partner). The comparison went well and agreement is good between the various standards. 
New heavy-duty standards for heavy-duty vehicle refueling were developed, and METAS finalized the development of its heavy-duty standard (HFTS2) and field-tested it successfully. This primary standard is now available for commercial mandates and several customers have already required testing services with this newly developed standard. METAS had very little contributed to WP3 and 4. METAS completed WP5 in collaboration with CESAME and performed several monitoring measurements at various HRS over a period of 24 months.

Umsetzung und Anwendungen

- Declaration of a new CMC for hydrogen following the good results of the Euramet comparison, which gained international recognition.
- Realization of commercial mandates with the HFTS2, there are already three requests for proposals.
