The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) aims to improve healthcare equity by shedding light on equity-related issues in the access to and quality of the healthcare system in Switzerland. There is a need to examine the reasons and implications of forgoing healthcare with representative survey data in Switzerland. The main purpose of this project was to investigate the determinants of forgoing healthcare, its reasons and health-related outcomes occurring as a result of unmet medical needs. The project used data from several national and regional sources which provide extensive data on demographic, socioeconomic, lifestyle-related, psychosocial, and health-related markers. The overall findings resulting from this project help implement evidence-based policies aimed at reducing inequalities in accessing and using healthcare services in Switzerland.
