Kurzbeschreibung
(Englisch)
A strategic plan to control the spread of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) is currently implemented on an experi-mental basis. The measure is designed to account for epidemiological and ecological behavior of the disea-se in the Ticino region. This measure, however, needs to be scientifically validated and modified, if necessa-ry, before it is implemented for a long-term. This research project is designed to evaluate this measure using both retrospective and prospective data. The measure will be used as a potential epidemiological model and will be scientifically tested using known analytical techniques. The project consists of data collection, data analysis and a simulation modeling with the aim of assessing the current measurement strategy and evalua-tion of other options. The description of the data should be evaluated carefully so that the above model can be tested. The other strategies for the evaluation should be realistic, practical, and biologically sound. The-refore, the project is proposing to maintain the database for at least another hunting season before a conclu-sion can be derived from the findings for the long-term implementation of the proposed model. The project will result in a set of suggestions for the constraint of CSF in wild swine with a minimum disturbance to the natural and social structure.

The aim of the project ist to constrain the disease into the risk zone with a potential for its self-limitation.

A model was proposed which accounts for epidemiological and ecological behavior of the disease in this situation. This model, however, needs to be scientifically validated and modified, if necessary, before its long-term implementation. The details of the model are available in the attachment (The attachment will be included later). Therefore, both retrospective and prospective data are needed for this evaluation.

The collected data from the above monitoring system need to be epidemiologically described. The descrip-tion of the data should be evaluated carefully so that the above model can be tested.

There is a need to maintain the database for at least another hunting season before a conclusion can be derived from the findings for the long-term implementation of the proposed model.

Other potential strategies that are not part of the evaluated model should be considered and evaluated before a final decision is made. The other strategies for the evaluation should be realistic, practical, and biologically sound.
Abstract
(Deutsch)
