Description succincte
(Allemand)
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas and responsible for ozone destruction in the stratosphere. As such, N2O emissions are targeted by the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris agreement and have to be included in national inventory reporting to the UNFCCC. In Switzerland, total N2O emissions contribute about 5.6 % to national anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions in 2016 (FOEN, 2018). These “bottom-up” estimates for N2O are associated with large uncertainties due to the heterogeneous character of the main emission processes, i.e. direct and indirect emissions from agricultural and (semi-)natural ecosystems.
