Short description (English)

Sunlight will be used in order to supply the power of a microbial electrolysis cell for hydrogen generation. Integrated photovoltaic cells will be coupled to the electrolysis cell in order to replace the needed external power. Alternatively, one or both of the electrodes should be replaced by photoelectrodes directly immersed into the electrolyte. The aim is low-cost biohydrogen generation from abundant biomass under irradiation with indoor-type solar light. Such a hydrogen generator is useful for remote power systems as well as for wastewater treatment.
