With the steady increase in traffic volume, today's roundabouts are reaching their capacity limits. Practice shows that two-lane roundabouts at the ring can not always guarantee the desired capacity and sometimes cause black spots at the accidentology level.
In this context, the concept of turbo-roundabout, still very little developed in Switzerland, becomes a growing focus for traffic planners. However, due to the lack of experience and standardization, the implementation in Switzerland of such developments is still very poorly exploited.
In a first phase, it will be a question of analyzing existing turbo-roundabouts in Switzerland and especially abroad, with respect to the criteria of traffic conditions, geometrical requirement and specific equipments and to compare them with conventional variants of roundabout.
In a second step, it will be necessary to define basic elements of sizing and design of this turbo-roundabout. Research will integrate all road users into its thinking and special attention will be given to advanced signaling, marking and flow separation elements.
Standardization in this area being non-existent, one of the aims of this work will also be to draw up recommendations, based on the results obtained, for future standardization.

Avec l'augmentation constante du volume de trafic, les giratoires actuels atteignent de plus en plus leurs limites de capacité. La pratique montre que les giratoires à deux voies à l’anneau ne peuvent pas toujours garantir la capacité recherchée et engendrent parfois des points noirs au niveau de l’accidentologie.
Dans ce contexte, le concept des turbo-giratoires, encore très peu développé en Suisse, devient un centre d’intérêt croissant pour les planificateurs en circulation routière. Cependant, de par le manque d’expérience et de normalisation, la mise en œuvre en Suisse de tels aménagements n’est encore que très faiblement exploitée.
Dans une première phase, il s’agira d’analyser les turbo-giratoires existants en Suisse et surtout à l’étranger, par rapports aux critères de conditions de trafic, d’exigences géométriques et d’équipements spécifiques et de les comparer ensuite aux variantes conventionnelles de giratoire.
Dans un deuxième temps, il s’agira de définir les éléments de base de dimensionnement et de conception de ce type d’aménagement. La recherche intégrera dans sa réflexion l’ensemble des usagers de la route et un soin tout particulier sera apporté à la signalisation avancée, au marquage et aux éléments de séparation des flux.
La standardisation dans ce domaine étant inexistante, l’un des buts de ce travail sera aussi d’établir des recommandations, sur la base des résultats obtenus, pour une normalisation future.

The current VSS standards have a design, dimensioning and recommendation deficiency for turbo-roundabouts.
The aim of this research is to propose a cartography of turbo-roundabouts, to evaluate their efficiency, their constraints, to define the required equipment for their design and to describe a sizing method applicable within swiss context.
Case studies already carried out in Switzerland or in neighboring countries are also planned.
The results of this research, and the knowledge gained, will make recommendations for future standardization.

Les normes VSS actuellement en vigueur présentent un déficit en matière de conception, de dimensionnement et de recommandations au sujet des turbo-giratoires.
La présente recherche a pour objectifs de proposer une cartographie des turbo-giratoires, d'évaluer leur efficacité, leurs contraintes, de définir les équipements requis pour leur conception et de décrire une méthode de dimensionnement applicable au contexte suisse.
Des études de cas déjà réalisés en Suisse ou dans les pays limitrophes sont également prévues.
Les résultats de cette recherche, et les connaissances acquises permettront d'établir des recommandations en vue d'une future normalisation.
