The external review was undertaken in year 2015 to assess the impacts of the first phase of MLRBP (starting March 2011 to June 2015). The impact analysis was based on the annual Outcome Monitoring Summaries (OMS) from the programme and the surveys undertaken of 11 sample completed and bridges selected to represent typical conditions throughout the country. Over the period of 4 years, the programme has assisted Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR) and District Development Committees (DDCs) in 48 districts to construct 85 bridges, which benefited over 300,000 people directly with improved access to services and opportunities. Increased numbers of vehicles are plying over the completed bridges, new shops and services are opened up and significant use of services are recorded. Over 600,000 person days of employment generated out of which, Disadvantaged Groups (DAGs) benefited with 70 % of employment and 200 people (50% women) received training related to bridge construction.More than 50 % of bridges have higher internal rates of returns (IRR) ranging from 12.2 to 28.6 and benfeit cost ratios ranging from 1.07 to 2.96. These results justifies well the investments made in this sector by Nepal and Swiss Governments.
