Solidarmed has since 1999 successfully implemented a community participation project called Wiwanana, The goal of the project, which is being implemented in two districts of the province of Cabo Delgado is to improve the health status of the population in the communities by adopting healthier behaviors and thereby sensibly reduce the burden of disease. This external review was commissioned to provide an input for the planning of Phase 2 of the Wiwanana Project starting in 2012. During Phase 2, the Wiwanana project will be transformed into an independent NGO. The objectives of the review included to assess the results achieved so far and to provide an input to the decision making process on the way forward with the future NGO Wiwanana and with the integration of community involvement into the health sector.
