International research has shown the strong impact of the place of residence and of the mobility tool ownership on daily mode choice. Both are influenced by variables beyond those of the transport system. Transport and land use policy therefore needs to understand how households choose both.
Prior to its empirical work the project will summarize the literature on the impact of non-transport performance related variables with a special attention to the measurement of cognitive and emotional factors, but also further attitudes and values. The project will in then analyze these long-term choices and their interactions with a comprehensive set of variables covering spatial structure, household structure and socio-demographics, transport system, but also attitudes and values of the individuals. The step is the analysis of daily mode choice conditional on the previous choices. We will capture additionally the risk awareness and acceptance, habits and lifestyle, but also the perception of social norms and the feelings of control. The information will be used to estimate state-of-the-art hybrid choice models.
