The aim of this project is to develop a proof-of-concept process that affords the chemical commodity 2,5- furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) from residual lignocellulosic biomass and in high yields. It has been shown that FDCA can be the main chemical precursor for the synthesis of advanced polymers that exhibit large market potential. Deriving such products from biomass is of immediate commercial value since they improve the environmental footprint and diversify from fossil fuels.
