Abstract (Deutsch)

This research project#s objective is to evaluate a potential benefit of blocking IL-31- mediated pruritus in allergic dermatitis of the horse. The most common allergic dermatitis of horses is the so-called insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH), an allergy against insect bites. Therefore, we will develop a therapeutic vaccine against aiming at inducing anti-IL-31 auto-antibodies. This vaccine will be compared against a monotherapy of the already existing vaccine eIL-5-VLP and a combination therapy of eIL-5-VLP and eIL-31- VLP in a placebo controlled randomized double blind phase II study. Furthermore, the vaccine production will be optimized, the clinical proof of efficacy will be obtained, and long-term safety profiles of the vaccines will be studied.
