Abstract
(German)
Remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) have been actively developed and commercialized in a wide range of applications such as offshore drilling, scientific exploration and undersea facility maintenance. All ROVs require a buoyancy unit for their safe and optimized operation. However, the current buoyancy technology limits the ROVs for their maximum operating depth of 3000 m below sea level. Therefore, de Cavis and Empa will develop a novel manufacturing technology for ultra-lightweight ceramic buoyancy spheres to enable ROVs operations at depths > 5000 m.
