Touch systems using frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR) combine multiple beam responses in order to evaluate multiple finger positions (multi-touch tracking). To respond to the market#s demand for interactive walls, new challenges must be addressed: increase the capability to more than 20 simultaneous touches and improve immunity to screen contamination under the constraint of not significantly increasing hardware cost. The research avenue pursued is to introduce a source separation algorithm crafted by a new and dedicated hardware optimization procedure.
