Multimode Standard Agnostic Internet of Things Modem SoC Design (Icarium)
Abstract
(German)
Cellular communication modems, customized for low cost, low power and lower data rate than those for smart phones, will play a crucial role for the proliferation of the internet of things (IoT). So important is cellular IoT to the industry that a plethora of new standards have been proposed and a new era of billions of connected devices are expected in the next few years. This project focuses on research and development of a multistandard RF system on a chip, that supports extended coverage, a new feature targeted by all new cellular IoT standards but not realized yet by anybody. Challenges in cell search, synchronization, time domain diversity will be the focus of the research in this project. The implementation partner has firm plans to take maximum advantage of the project in its push for a front seat of this new market in cellular IoT applications.
