Nearly 70% of all metallic bridges in Europe are older than 50 years. The majority of fatigue damages in this type of bridges were reported in riveted connections. In this project, a pre-stressed CFRP retrofit system for strengthening of bridge connections will be developed. Several small- and large-scale connections will be tested under static and fatigue loadings. Finally, in order to show the efficiency of the CFRP retrofit system, it will be mounted on an old SBB railway metallic bridge in Switzerland.
