During open heart surgery, air bubbles can enter the coronary arteries and the brain. Insufflation of the thorax cavity with CO2 gas as a protection against air bubbles (emboli) is in use for over 60 years. However, as used currently, this technique is not safe enough, especially for minimally invasive surgery, where the heart cavities are opened via a tunnel with limited space. This project will develop a device that guarantees effective CO2 delivery in the heart chambers.
