The objective of the project is to develop and demonstrate a cost-effective, high-performance connectivity solution between line-cards using optical backplanes. Thereby, the technology for glass fiber routing on a substrate has to be developed, which should be suitable for automation and multi-fiber connector assembly. In particular, different concepts have to be evaluated, technology and tools for fiber routing and attachment, bend crossings protection and multi-fiber connector assembly have to be developed and optimized and a prototype system has to be manufactured and qualified.
