The Path to a Transmission-Blocking Vaccine for cats against Toxoplasma gondii: A Feasibility Study Using Stagespecific Recombinant Proteins.
Abstract
(Deutsch)
Toxoplasma gondii causes a globally important zoonotic disease transmitted by cats into the food chain via contaminated meat and water. Our aim is to develop a vaccine that blocks transmission of this parasite. We used functional genomics to discover 40 proteins that may be crucial for reproduction of Toxoplasma in the cat. We can now test combinations of these proteins to prove that vaccination of cats can prevent transmission of this highly significant parasitic diseas.
