This project proposes a novel energy-efficient traction drive for Stadler trains for the 25kV/50Hz railway system. It includes the development of a new dry-type traction transformer with lower weight and lower losses compared to conventional oil-filled transformers, the pilot installation on a train, and the further improvement of the transformer to be ready for the operation with future converters based on fast-switching MOSFET semiconductors.
