Protective Blue Coating for Metal Drills (BlueCoat)

Abstract (German)

The project aims at a development of a new process for deposition of blue protective coating on metal step drills. The coating should possess attractive and uniform blue colour and satisfactory wear resistance. The blue coating deposition is a two-step (duplex) process involving different surface treatment techniques, amongst PVD-Arc, PVD-HIPIMS, ALD, anodic oxidation, and thermal treatment. Several technological solutions (duplex processes) will be demonstrated on a laboratory scale and the most promising one(s) will be evaluated for industrial feasibility (technical benchmarking). This evaluation is required by the industrial partner to select the most efficient process for industrial implementation.
