Abstract

Obesity and its associated co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular complications have become a major burden worldwide with limited options for treatment. ETH Zürich and Glycemicon continue their successful collaboration on the application of THBA in type 2 diabetes therapy. In the current project both partners will develop a novel biocatalytic routes for production of THBA and elucidate whether THBA could also be employed a type 2 diabetes treatment in pets. Lastly the project aims to uncover new possibilities for the treatment of obesity through the identification of natural products which induce energy expenditure by activating brown fat.
