Due to their ease of processing, epoxy thermoset systems are commonly found has matrix system for carbon fibre reinforced polymers, however, such system are inherently brittle. A novel approach would allow to considerably increase the fracture toughness through self-assembling toughening interfaces at the nanometer scale, without processing drawbacks know from common toughening methods.
