Surface coating of polyester fibers using nano-anchored silk fibroin
Abstract

Silk fibroin is an extremely versatile natural material with extraordinary properties. We intend to extract and purify silk fibroin and use the pure protein solution for modification of synthetic textiles. The first aim of this proposal is to improve the silk fibroin extraction process, reducing protein degradation. Efficient surface modification of polyester fibers with silk fibroin will be achieved using chemically modified oligoesters as nano-anchors to obtain an efficient and stable coating.
