Peri-implantitis caused by periodontal pathogens is a central challenge for dental implants. Conventional antimicrobial strategies rely on biocidals such as silver or antibiotics, both being problematic due to potential toxicity as well as antimicrobial resistance. A biophysical approach to directly modify surfaces to act antibacterial is an alternative. Here nanostructured surfaces (NS) will be fabricated by metal evaporation technology and their antimicrobial efficacy studied in vitro.
