Biosensors for patient self-monitoring in metabolic diseases

Abstract (German)

Patients suffering from the metabolic disease Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) have to undergo regular blood tests in order to monitor their branched chain amino acid (Leu, Ile and Val) levels. Based on a conceptually new sensing mechanism, we will develop biosensors that will allow patients to do these tests themselves using a simple handheld device; similar to the way diabetics monitor their blood sugar levels.
