Titanium has a rather poor polishability, which makes polishing a time-consuming and costly process. The highductility and toughness, the low thermal conductivity and the overall poor tribological properties may lead to smearingand galling and hence to unsatisfactory appearance of the workpiece. The aim of the project is the development of athermochemical treatment, by means of which the surface layer becomes slightly hardened and embrittled, therebyfacilitating the final polishing step.
