COST-Action MP1407 - ELECTROCHEMICAL PROCESSING METHODOLOGIES AND CORROSION PROTECTION FOR DEVICE AND SYSTEMS MINIATURIZATION
Short description
(English)
Stainless steels are Fe-alloys containing Cr at more than 11 wt% and are widely used for various applications because of their excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Such alloys are promising candidates for microcomponents in MEMS devices, especially in bio-MEMS and microreactors, where the high anticorrosive property is required. We aim to investigate the electrodeposition of stainless steel into LIGA molds to enable fabrication of micromechanical parts with precise geometry and high resolution. The effects of batch composition, non-uniform current density, pulsation cycles, and convection on the alloy composition, microstructure, corrosion and mechanical properties will be investigated. Using LIGA microcomponents, we aim to study the effect of microstructure on plastic anisotropy through variable temperature and strain rate microtensile testing. This project is bringing to the COST action the development of a new material for micrcomponent as it is aimed. It is also targeting a material with excellent magnetic and corrosion properties and highly attractive to industrial application like the action intends to set his priority.
