Short description (English)

Press glued connection is one method with multidisciplinary application, like assembling members, performing as connection or as reinforcement. Press glued connections can be carried out with specific nails, screws or stables whereas it is important to reach and to hold a certain uniform distributed pressure for the curing process of the adhesive. In Europe, only the German design standard provides regulations to carry out press glued connections but only with screws. Lamella thicknesses, fasteners as well as the distances are defined; however, no reference values for the final quality control or during the production are specified. In practice, the thickness of the glue line has an impact on the load capacity and is therefore limited to provide a forced locked connection. But the required thickness of the glue line depends on the adhesive used, the surface conditions and pressure which should be uniformly distributed over the complete contact area. For a wide use of this technique, also with more efficient systems using nails or staples, engineers, practitioners and producers need guidelines and reliability. Therefore the objective of the project is to investigate the press gluing capacities and to develop reliable methods for the application of press gluing with screws, nails and staples.
