Short description (English)

The project aims to identify topical patterns hidden within text streams and also model the associations across streams. More specifically, to develop a set of models and respective software tools for topic mining of asynchronous and heterogeneous streams that will enable: (a) the discovery of a set of topics expressed by heterogeneous documents in multiple streams, providing quantitative measures that can be used to identify the information content of these documents; (b) the quantification of the similarity between documents in terms of content re-use (i.e. a document re-using some of the content of another document); (c) the tracking of the flow and changes of content over time; and, last but not least, (d) the discovery of significant temporal publishing patterns among the streams, providing quantitative measures of the importance of the topic, and of the authoritativeness and timeliness of each stream in relation to a topic or set of topics.
