The study offers guidance to municipal and cantonal traffic planners for the estimation of economic effects of traffic-calming actions. In a first step, the supra-regional effects of the traffic-calming actions on the structure of sectors and on the creation of value (using full-time equivalent jobs by sectors as a proxy) are estimated using multivariate regression analysis. The analysis allows a nationwide apraisal as well as a small scale appraisal of metropolitan, medium and small centers. If feasible, also several different types of traffic-calming measures will be regarded.
The model will be applied using predefined cases and it will be validated using practical cases, in order to contrast the model results with the effective effects on traffic. Using semi-structured interviews, the traffic-calming-dependent site selection behaviour will be described.
Using the results from the regression analysis and the case studies, a guide of action for actual planning, differentiated by metropilitan, medium and small centres, will be developped. With help of a decision diagram, impact analysis of traffic-calming actions regarding the structure of sectors and creation of value will be possible.
