Die nationale Strategie StAR hat zum Ziel, mit einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz („One Health“) das Bedrohungspotential durch multiresistente Bakterien zu vermindern. Eine allgemein als entscheidend anerkannte Massnahme ist dabei die signifikante Reduzierung des Einsatzes von Antibiotika bei Nutztieren. Allerdings ist gegenwärtig die metaphylaktische und therapeutische Verabreichung von Antibiotika insbesondere in der Kalbfleischproduktion unabdingbar für die Erzielung eines angemessenen Deckungsbeitrages der Landwirte. Mindestens ebenso problematisch ist, dass 20-60% des Einkommens von Tierärzten im Nutztierbereich durch den Verkauf von Antibiotika generiert wird. Ein Paradigmenwechsel ist zwingend erforderlich. Es ist das Ziel dieses Projekts, mittels Konsultation und Modellberechnungen praktikable Anreizsysteme zu entwickeln, die finanzielle Vorteile für Landwirte und Tierärzte bei einer reduzierten Verwendung von Antibiotika erwarten lassen. Dies erfordert eine neue Ausrichtung der tierärztlichen Tätigkeit im Nutztierbereich

Short description (English)

The One Health approach in the Swiss national strategy StAR tries to curtail the threat by resistant bacteria. One accepted approach is a significant reduction of the use of antimicrobials in food animals. At present, however, an extensive metaphylactic and therapeutic application of antimicrobials is a crucial component of the production system of veal calves and beef cattle. Antimicrobials are indispensable for an economically sound profit margin of the farmer. Even more disputable is the fact that 20-60% of the income of food animal veterinarians is generated by disposal of antimicrobials. Clearly, a turnaround is needed.  It is the objective of this project to develop economically feasible and acceptable models which allow to penalize in financial terms the use and to reward the abandonment of administration of antimicrobials in calf husbandry for farmers as well as for veterinarians. As a prerequisite, a financially promising realignment of the veterinary profession in the food animal sector will be propagandize (“less therapy, more prevention and consulting”).
