High density fiber positioner robotic systems for massive astrophysical spectroscopic surveys

Abstract (German)

Forefront science requires spectroscopic information of millions of stars and galaxies. To reach this goal, we will develop a cell of high-density robots capable of positioning optical fibers on the focal plane of a telescope within a few microns of positional accuracy. The cell consists of 19 fiber positioners, each capable of accurately following a collision-free path through their integrated electronics and software.
