Optogenetic stimulation of glutamatergic transmission to study a new class of allosteric modulators in anxiety disorders and substance abuse.
Abstract
(German)
The objective is to use an optogenetic approach to study the therapeutic potential of allosteric modulation of glutamatergic transmission (mGluR4 & 7) in the amygdala for the treatment of anxiety disorders and substance abuse. We will explore this in animal models of posttraumatic stress disorder and reward/motivation. We aim to improve efficacy and specificity of allosteric glutamatergic modulators by assessing their effects on stimulation of specific pathways related to these therapeutic areas.
