Luminescent backlight films enhance the color and energy efficiency of LCD displays. Kovalenko pioneered a new class of luminescent, cadmium-free nanocrystals. Nanograde independently developed a cost-efficient process for the production of such materials. Kovalenko and Nanograde join forces to overcome the final technical challenges to a successful commercialization allowing Nanograde to become a leading supplier of luminescent LCD backlight films addressing a 540MCHF market
