Wood surface modification for UV protection and water repellency in outdoor applications
Abstract
(German)
UV radiation deteriorates the aesthetical appearance of wood by decomposing wood polymers at its surface. A technology for wood surface modification based on chemical bath deposition (CBD) has been developed, which results both in UV protection and water repellency with a strong resistance against weathering, which preserves the aesthetic appearance of wood. The CBD technology was optimized at the labsacale for spruce wood. In the proposed project it is intended to up-scale the invention for a variety of wood species in outdoor wood applications.
