Development of an implantable fluid drainage device for lymphedema treatment
Abstract
(German)
This project is a feasibility study in the domain of lymphedema treatment. The aim is to verify whether it is possible to drain fluids from a chronic edematous area back to the systemic circulation, through an implanted micro-catheter integrated with a micropump.|Our approach aims to mimic the functionality of lymphatic vessels, impaired in lymphedema-affected limbs, in order to restore physiological lymph circulation. To validate this approach, a novel micropump system will be designed, built and tested in a preclinical model of lymphedema.
