BONDCOAT: High efficiency aircraft and land-based gas turbines with a new bond coat concept
Abstract
(German)
Higher operating temperatures are the basic requirement to increase the efficiency of gas turbines. The versatility of combining different bulk substrate materials with the porous oxide of the thermal barrier coating depends strongly on the design of the bond coat. Bond coats with compositions similar to the substrate bulk are required to ensure good adhesion to substrate. To stabilize the interface to the porous oxide, the bond coat must form an excellent oxygen diffusion barrier to the porous oxide. A graded layer concept will be developed which allows a synthesis of the interfaces to the bulk as well as to the porous oxide in one process utilizing reactive cathodic arc evaporation.|The industrial partner is the global leader for PVD coating service (OB more than 30% market share) and the global leader for equipment sales in spray technology (OM with a market share of 35%). The PVD bond coat approach will result in a process technology which is unique and supports the leadership and increases the market share of the industrial partner in this demanding market.
