In the green flame-retardant fibre insulating boards project we utilize a bio-inspired one-pot mineralization approach to insert calcium carbonate into fibre insulation boards in order to improve their flame retardancy without impairing the excellent heat insulation properties. The objective of the project is to upscale the eco-friendly and low-cost process from the demonstrator level to the industrial production and to overcome the key limitations for a wider application of wood fibre boards in the building sector by using a novel calcium carbonate/wood hybrid material.
